Saucy Italian BYOB Brings a Taste
of Home to the Ol' 'Hood
The
Scene
Restaurant owners should give more hugs--the one here does. But
don't ask her for her mom's ricotta cheesecake recipe, she's not
giving that out. Plain and quaint, this BYOB feels like home, or
at least that of the Italian aunt you never had: filled with freshly
shaven beaus and impeccably manicured gals from the neighborhood.
The Food You gotta love a restaurant that serves you a side of veggies and roasted potatoes, no matter what entree you order. The house salad, simply greens, cherry tomatoes and shaved Parmesan, is plain and good. Do not miss the spinach gnocchi, which literally melts in your mouth. A bit disappointing, however, is a dry, bland mix of grilled seafood served over greens, and a veal cutlet laden with cheese, prosciutto, mushrooms and rich sauce. Thick chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella and served in tangy tomato sauce is good enough to be a closely held family secret. Little pizzas aren't bad, either. Desserts are imported, except for Mom's cheesecake.
