Ristorante Pesto: Italian delights on South Broad
Ever
find yourself down in the wacky and woolly world of South Broad,
with its junky stores and funeral homes? Step into Ristorante
Pesto for a real change of pace: an attractive, medium-sized Italian
BYOB. The waitstaff is extremely attentive and knowledgeable, rattling
off an extensive list of specials. One frequent special offering
is the baked portabella mushroom topped with fresh basil, breadcrumbs,
crabmeat and mozzarella cheese and floating in a deliciously sweet
tomato sauce. Other appetizers like the mussels in oil and garlic
or tender fried calamari in marinara sauce make a hard act to follow.
Pasta dishes like the linguini with shrimp, mussels and clams in
a rich white sauce help even the score, as does the chicken breast
cooked with artichokes, prosciutto, mozzarella and white wine. The
food is mostly cooked in the wood-burning oven, which is particularly
fortuitous with the fish specials like the hearty tuna steak. A
very reasonable lunch is also served with excellent panini sandwiches:
Who can resist soppressata, hot pepper and sharp provolone between
two halves of Italian bread?
